History

The breed has its origin in New Foundland, United States, where it helped fishermen with their work. Then, later on they got to the West of England, as during their business travels fishermen would sometimes sell even their dogs. In England, these dogs would be used mainly as hunting dogs. Until the 1814, the dogs were commonly known as Newfoundland Dog.

The name Labrador Retriever was first used by the Earl of Malmesbury in 1887. Dog breed literature is not united about the date when the breed of labrador retriever was officialy acknowledged by the English Kennel Club. Allegedly, it was either 1903 or 20 years later, 1923.

In 1916, the English Club of Labrador Retriever was founded, which set the breed standards and aswell was trying to keep the breed pure. In America, labrador retrievers were acknowledged as a breed in 1917.

These days, labrador retrievers are used for hunting, their skills are much more useful though during search and rescue activities, drug and expllosives seeking or they help handicapped people.

Description and characteristics

This breed is energetic, it’s good to provide the dogs with suitable training, physical and psychical activities and pay enough attention to them. They are very intelligent, gentle and friendly, thus being favoured by more and moe people.

Labrador retrievers are strong, well-built dogs, that aswell can be quick and well adapted for different kinds of activities. Their head is wide, with slightly outstanding brows, making the dogs look very peaceful. Their eyes, usually brown or hazel, shine with intelligence. Their feet are equipped with webs to ease their movements in water. The hair is short, dense and weatherproof, it should bear not trace of curliness. The average height of a male dog in crest is about 56-57 cm, of a female 54-56. they weigh between 25-36 kg.

There are four basic colour shades of labradors: uniformly yellow, or black and chocolate or liver brown – these shades are rather exceptional though. The yellow color takes shades ranging from cream to foxy red.

History

The origins of this friendly breed are in England. Most experts agree that the real ancestors were tweed water spaniel and either little newfoundland dog or flat coated retriever. The birth of this breed is a credit of Lord Tweedmouth. The data recorded in the 19th century on his Scottish farm shows, that he bred yellow puppies, whose father was Nous, the first golden retriever of Lord Tweedmouth. It is obvious then, where the golden color comes from.

At the end of the 19th century the breed became very popular all over England. Thanks to that, some species were aswell brought to the US and Canada in the 1890s. In England the dogs were only owned by the nobility till the beginning of the 20th century. Eventually the formerly hunting breed has been cultivated for sport and work purposes. Golden retriever make great good-helpers, too.

The breed was acknowledged by the English Kennel Club in 1913 and 12 years later, in 1925, it was registered with the American Kennel Club. The name Golden Retriever was established in 1920. In 1928, a club of golden retriever owners was founded.

Description and characteristics

Golden retrievers are very active, intelligent and clever dogs. They like both learning and playing. Their naturally peaceful and friendly nature simply charms everybody, they love giving and getting love. These dogs are really great with children and recently one of the most popular breeds in general.

Golden retrievers are substantial, well built, symmetric, strong dogs. They have wide scull, saggy ears and straight muzzle. Their shoulders and buttocks are muscular, mutually equal. The hair is dense with rich, waterproof undergrowth and tends to be wavy. The color of their hair ranges from creamy white to gold-red. Golden retrievers are (in crest) about 53-60 cm heigh and weigh 25-34kg.

History

This breed comes originally from the United Kingdom and was very favoured especially at the beginning of the 20th century, but has recently been revived in Western Europe. In the Czech Republic these dogs first started to appear in the 1990s.

Description and characteristics

Flat coated retriever has been used as a hunting dog, guide dog, dog for handicapped people and a drug seeker. Compared to other retriever breeds his big advantage is his efficient smell capacity. After its ancestors it took over the speed and grace of movements. It is a bright, lively dog, medium height, with intelligent face, very obedient and thus suitable with children. Flat coated retriever wants to please, learns everything quite quickly. It matures later than other dogs, for a long time it would still behave like a puppy.

History

The breed was known already in the 16th century, it developed ancient long-haired sheperd and hunting "water dogs". It became very popular back then, but evetually turned to be a social breed only.

Poodles are famous for their loyalty, willingness to learn, obedience and ability to be very pleasant companions. They remember orders quite well and thus can be easily trained. Their intelligent, quick-witted, active and well-balanced appearance leaves behind an impression of elegance and pride.

Description and characteristics

Poodles have harmonious body, medium built, covered with specific hair, curly or stringy. They don’t lose their hair, however they require special care consisting of combing and brushing so that the hair doesn’t felt. Once in six months their hair needs cutting and trimming.

King poodle, otherwise also known as big or robust, is the oldest of the kind. Almost as tall as a labrador retriever, it has firm, well-built body. It makes noble impression, walks in a dance-like manner. It can live up to quite high age.

Along with FCI, poodles have number 172 in group 9 among social and toy breeds.

Labradoodles are crosssbreeds of poodles and labrador retrieversthat were cultivated by Wally Conron at Guide Dogs Victoria, an Australian guide dog training center, in 1989. His aim was to find a dog with hair of a poodle (doesn’t moult), as sociable and easy to teach as a labrador retriever, but at the same time still suitable for people suffering allergies (caused by dog hair or other stuff possibly contained in it). Labradoodles have been used all over the world to support handicapped people - they do guiding, assistence, canistherapy. Aswell, they might be good pets and companions.

Description and characteristics

Labradoodles keep developing. They are roughly the size of a labrador retriever. Many of them show desired specifics, however the shape and character is still, generally speaking, unpredictable. Their hair can be both rough and soft, curly, wavy or straight. In between cutting, which is recommended to happen 3-4 times a year, it requires special care and combing to prevent felting. Some labradoodles lose their hair, but much less than other dogs, and their smell is weaker than the one of for example labrador retrievers.

They are friendly, active, cheerful dogs suitable for families with children. They are easy to handle and get on well with other dogs too. They are thought to be very intelligent. If their master is noot consistent they might try to take advantage of that and outwit him. They can learn to follow orders consisting of sounds, sign language or combination of both.

Historie

Jak už sám název napovídá, původ tohoto plemene bychom měli hledat v Německu. Německý ovčák (dříve také alsaský ovčák) je nejtypičtějším představitelem původních evropských ovčáckých psů, z kterých byl na konci 19. století vyšlechtěn krátkosrstý vlku podobný typ. Klub chovatelů německých ovčáků (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde) byl založen v roce 1899 a rozlišoval varianty krátkosrstou, hrubosrstou a dlouhosrstou.

Dnešní podobu německý ovčák získal na počátku 20. století a jeho chov je spojen se jménem chovatele, rytmistra von Stephanitze. Plemeno vzniklo cílevědomým chovem durynských a württemberských ovčáckých psů. V chovu byly upevňovány a rozvíjeny povahové vlastnosti psa, temperament a schopnosti tak, aby vzniklo vynikající služební, sportovní a společenské plemeno vhodné pro práci u policie, v armádě či jako pes pomocník.

Za první světové války se plemeno osvědčilo v německé armádě. Tito psi byli nasazováni Červeným křížem pro vyhledávání zraněných vojáků, přenášeli vybavení pro první pomoc, byli používáni jako poslové či jako hlídači a obránci muničních skladů. Na konci války britští a američtí vojáci vzali psy s sebou domů. Uvádí se, že to byli právě britští chovatelé, kteří změnili jeho jméno na alsaského vlčího psa, později alsasana. Ve Spojených státech amerických byl ovčák znám pod tímto jménem zhruba až do roku 1970.

Popis a charakteristika

Německý ovčák je velmi fyzicky aktivní, inteligentní a spolehlivý pes, kterému je ovšem potřeba zaručit dostatek pohybu a správný výcvik. Je to velký a pevně stavěný pes s protáhlým tělem, důstojným trojúhelníkovým obličejem a vztyčenýma ušima. Oči mandlovitého tvaru, obvykle tmavé barvy vyzařující živý, sebejistý a rozumný výraz. Srst je krátká, hustá, pouze na krku a zadních stranách končetin bývá delší.

Zbarvení tohoto plemena bývá černé, s pravidelnými hnědými, žlutými až světle šedými znaky a s černým sedlem nebo tmavě kalené, celočerné, jednotně šedé. Průměrná výška v kohoutku se pohybuje od 58 cm až po 63 cm. Váha se pohybuje v rozmezí od 28 do 37 kg.

Zařazení

Platný standard v České republice je uveden pod číslem 166. Německý ovčák je zařazen do skupiny I, kterou tvoří plemena ovčácká, pastevecká, honácká s výjimkou švýcarských salašnických psů.

History

White sheperd was known already in the 19th century. Allegedly, the formely used name American-Canadian White Sheperd is only a colour variation of german sheperds. First german sheperds appeared on exhibitions in the 1880s and they were white color. Later on they got disqualified and in 1968 the white color has been banned from the standards of german sheperds.

The name American-Canadian White Sheperd was used until 2002 (Americans used the term "White-colored German Sheperd"), when the breed was finally acknowledged as "White Swiss Sheperd"

Description and Characteristics

White swiss sheperd is a temperamental dog, active, lively but no way agressive. It is a confident dog that keeps its distance, but at the same time is very devoted companion. Requires to be quite active.

It was imported to the Czech Republic to serve as a social breed. In general it’s been used as a guide dog, sheperd, police dog, drug seeker or mountain rescue team dog.

The average height of a female dog in crest is 50-60 cm, of the males 61-66 cm.

These dogs are very well built, muscular, with quite short and big back. The head is noble with outstanding features. Almond-shaped eyes give them an attentive, intelligent, quick-witted look.

There can be two hair types – short and hard or medium long. The color should be plain white, no spots or freckles.

Classification

White german sheperd was acknowledged as a breed only in 2002 and its number is 347 in group 1 among sheperd and hunter dogs.
