Testimony for contact with a guide dog
- Do not interrupt a guide dog while it’s working. Do not try to attract its attention by chucking, calling, whistling or otherwise.
- Do not feel or touch a guide dog without asking its owner’s permission, even with good intentions. It is polite to ask if the owner agrees with your intentions first.
- Do not call for a guide dog. It has its owner. Target you communication on the owner.
- Do not feed the dog any treats without its owner’s permission. Ever. Condition and health of a guide dog form a basis for its long life and work.
- In case you want to help a blind person, always address them first and ask if your help is welcome. Do not get offended if they refuse, they are focused on their way.
- In case you are helping a blind person, do not manipulate the dog, communicate with the person and talk about what you are doing.
- If you are walking your own dog do not ever let it bother a guide dog, sniff around or otherwise disturb its work.
- When passing a blind person with a guide dog, always keep your own dog on a leash.
- While entering means of transport witht your own dog always let a blind person with their guide dog go in first..
- Inside means of transport make space for a guide dog and empty a suitable seat for its owner.
